Its displays are included :
The early history of the China Merchants Steamship Navigation Company which was founded in 1872, and which later merged with Yang Ming in 1995 as instructed by the Executive Yuan.
The course of change and development of the Yang Ming since our founding in 1972.
Some original callig raphy pieces by the late President Chiang Kai-Shek and other renowned figures in recent history.
Some unique antique nautical equipment that was formerly used on board our vessels in the last century.
This Foundation has been set up to promote national awareness of our nation's unique international status in Asia and the Pacific, thus making Taiwan an maritime country surrounded by a sea of "unlimited horizons." To realize this culture of "facing the ocean and viewing the world as our stage," the Yang Ming Cultural Foundation seeks to promote marine cultural understanding, tourism, and both domestic and overseas recreation.
According to related laws and regulations, this foundation is specifically created to:
Motivate national awareness of oceanic culture and marine ecology.
Administer related oceanic cultural activities such as exhibits, education, research, artifacts or crafts collections, promotions, sightseeing, leisure-time activities, innovation or other such efforts.
Reinforce and stimulate cultural and educational endeavors.
Inspire and pursue the collection, categorization, and publication of cultural and educational materials.
Nourish and conduct the management and implementation of other related oceanic culture activities or business.
Make every charitable effort for the public that conform to the purposes and principles of the Yang Ming Cultural Foundation.
To raise people’s realization of marine culture and fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Yang Ming refurbished a historical structure into a maritime land mark. The old building, standing in front of the Keelung Railway Station, was erected on May 4, 1915, and damaged during World War II. Now, it has been given a maritime new look and made into YM Oceanic Culture & Art Museum, which was opened on December 28, 2004. On May 13, 2005, the company further established the “Yang Ming Culture Foundation” for permanent promotion of marine culture education. YM Museum of Marine Exploration KAOHSIUNG, established at Cijin in cooperation with the Kaohsiung Bureau of Marine Affairs, was opened at the end of 2007 for the benefit of people in southern Taiwan.
We hope, through exhibitions and other activities, theses two facilities enable people
to get closer to the ocean, appreciate the ocean, protect the ocean, and work
and live harmoniously with the ocean.
